juniper Press
Juniper Press is a budding, independent publishing house created by artist Anicka Austin.
We make spaces and objects that activate joy and imagination, resist extraction, celebrate slow process, and work towards the liberation of all beings. We do this by creating and publishing books by artists who think radically about the body, performance, spirit, and the archive.
Season Two, F/w’26
Juniper Press will be at Book//Zine 002 (24 October 2026) with a collection of artist books and zines by Anicka Austin, Shawna Floyd, Jai Marie Hightower, and PhaeMonae.
The group, a study group of Black mothers, was convened by Shawna Floyd in 2024 to work towards breaking generational cycles of harm and reframing, learning, and practicing accountability as parents. We have engaged with these resources:
Spare the Kids: Why Whupping Children Won't Save Black America by Stacey Patton
Accountability Mapping’s Centered Accountability Course: https://accountabilitymapping.thinkific.com/ (Daria is the guide for this online course.)
Our participation in the zine fest is one way to share and advocate for Black mothers and children while engaging in a praxis that allows us to realize our reflections and ideas through artmaking. Future zines will be shared freely.
